A New Series - Coming Soon
About a year ago, I was still knees deep in the Extended Reality (XR) world, not thinking much about AI. While I had some prior experience with conversational design and AI assistants/chatbots, it wasn’t a skillset that I consistently nurtured. When I made the decision to pivot to AI in January 2024, I had to somewhat start at the beginning and upskill rather quickly to meet the needs of my new job role.
And it was tough.
The industry constantly evolved at what seemed to be daily. Familiar terms with new meanings emerged incessantly. We went from AI sometimes to AI everyday.
The reality of the matter
The one thing I’ve come to terms with is the fact that AI is here, and it only booked a 1-way flight into our work lives. Like some of you, I also tried to fight AI in those early days. I figured that AI was “just a phase” that would eventually fizzle out within a year.
But after 2 years within a company that’s one of the key players leading the charge in AI innovation, I’ve seen enough to say that AI is here to stay.
…well at least for another year!
Whether you like that reality is none of my business. But what is my business is helping you strengthen that portion of your brain that you’re reserving for learning more about AI!
Getting started with AI
So, I chose to gift the AI curious a brain dump of the framework I developed which helped me upskill on various AI topics. I’ve spent the past year observing many of you asking in one way or another: How do I get started with AI?
For starters, AI itself is a very broad term. Actually, that’s an understatement. I experienced the same thing when working in the XR space – curious minds wanted to “get started” but was immediately met with the overwhelming reality that the XR field is expansive. It’s nearly impossible to know everything there is to know about AI – that’s partially due in part to the fact that the space is still evolving. The other part that makes it nearly impossible to know everything about AI is that there’s so many paths to travel down, each with their own subset of subject areas to master.
Therefore, I revised this version of my framework to be broader in nature, thus applicable to various subject areas of AI. My framework isn’t necessarily a matter of learning how to prompt or use the latest AI-assistant – although the framework does cover that a bit. Rather, it’s a strategic and methodical approach to prioritizing the skills you want to learn and subsequently developing an AI learning roadmap tailored to your unique needs.
Let’s create a New Years resolution
Rather than dump the framework on you all at once, I’ll be sharing the framework over a couple of days as part of a series titled “Resolution-Proof Your Career: Thriving in the AI Workplace”.
I’ve always been a lover of New Years Resolutions. Albeit sometimes anxiety inducing, I very much still set a few for myself. Like most of the human population, I tend to wait until the new year to actually start executing on my resolutions. But the one thing I’ve learned over the year is that I fare better with achieving my resolutions when I do some due diligence to prepare in advance before the big day (i.e. January 1) arrives.
More about the series
"Resolution-Proof Your Career: Thriving in the AI Workplace" is a 6-week career transformation series designed for professionals who want to turn their 2025 AI career resolutions into reality - starting now, not January.
While others wait until January to think about career growth, you'll already be ahead of the curve. As mentioned, this isn't just another "learn AI" guide – it's a practical roadmap to become an AI-confident professional who can:
- Navigate AI conversations with leadership confidently
- Build efficient AI-enhanced workflows that actually work
- Position yourself as an AI-literate leader in your field
- Make strategic career decisions in an AI-transformed workplace
- Turn AI disruption into career opportunities
This framework is for my corporate career friends who:
- Know AI is changing their industry but aren't sure where to start
- Are team leaders preparing for AI transformation in their departments
- Are career-focused individuals who want to stay ahead of workplace changes
- Feel uncertain about their role's future in an AI world
- Want to move from "AI-aware" to "AI-fluent"
I’ve spent the past year observing most of you in a similar position to where I started in January. You’ve willingly (or maybe unwillingly) made a pivot into AI and had to quickly wrap your head around all the buzzwords that were floating around the corporate world. I want to help you move past being reactionary and instead develop a learning strategy that feels both approachable and makes an impact for your career in 2025.
We have a lot to cover
…so I hope that your brain has an insatiable desire to learn! I’ve put together a series of assessments, exercises, and general conceptual guidance to help you ease into executing your AI career resolution. Without spilling too much of the beans, here’s some of the topics that you can expect for us to work through together:
- Personal AI Readiness Assessment
- Understanding AI Fundamentals
- AI Ethics and Responsibility
- Prompting
- Mapping Learning Priorities
- Creating an Accountability System
- Exploring Workplace AI Tools
- Creating AI Workflows
I’ve put a lot of thought into being intentional about how best to execute this framework, prioritizing tasks that will set you up for success.
Here’s the logistics
The series starts Thursday December 5 and the framework is accessible view my Millennial Workweek newsletter (and website!). I’ll be with you (here on LinkedIn, of course) for each module of the framework. Now, because I do believe in having a proper work/life balance, I’ll be taking a short sabbatical from the internet December 16 – January 5 to decompress from all the 2024 activity. But don’t worry, I’ll return January 6 to cheer you on as you take the first step towards executing your AI career resolution.
And if for any reason you choose to start the series late, you can always catchup by reading former posts in the series on my website. I’ve made a handy little section on there that recaps everything!
Oh, and it’s free. I know – Black Friday got the best of me and it’s about time that someone offers something on the internet that’s fits into everyone’s holiday budget.
Consider this my special gift to you.
Let’s get started!
I’m so excited to get to spend the next 2 weeks with you! Just imagine all the fun that we’ll get to have together! Sharing is caring, so do please make your colleagues, mentees, and friends are aware of this opportunity to get a jump start on their 2025 career goals. And if you happen to have stumbled upon this newsletter entry and want in on the series updates, subscribe to The Millennial Workweek.
